Richard Mark Dobson
1963. Born in Bradford West Yorkshire.
1975. Emigrated to South Africa.
1985. Completed graphic design at the prestigious Johannesburg College of Art.
1986-1989. Richard Mark Dobson moved to London where his interest in photography began. Assisting one of London’s most acclaimed advertising location photographers, Duncan Sim it was during this time that Dobson developed a keen appreciation for photographic craft, technique and above all, the realization that it was through the camera that he could ultimately realize his desire to go 'walk-about with a purpose'.
1990. Opened his first photographic studio in Hong Kong and very quickly established himself as a successful editorial and commercial photographer.
1991-1998. Hong Kong. From his Asia base Dobson worked regularly for both local and international magazine and corporate clients. With extensice trips into China and the Asia Pacific.
1999-2009. South Africa. Dobson moved back to his adopted country of residence, South Africa and began his love affair with Africa again.
2009- Present. Vietnam. Saigon based. Currently dividing his time between Hong Kong, Penang, and Johannesburg.
