RICHARD MARK DOBSON

A Golden Age
This collection of SX-70 Polaroids was produced throughout the 1990s during a period of life I have come to think of as my own golden age.

The images function less as documents than fragments of memory — friendships, journeys, relationships, youthful ambition, and the experience of moving through the world with a camera constantly at hand.

Produced using Polaroid SX-70 film, the work embraces the instability and unpredictability of the medium itself. Colour shifts, fading, chemical imperfections, soft focus, scratches, and surface damage have become inseparable from the memories the images now carry.

Presented here as imperfect scans from ageing originals, the photographs reflect both the material fragility of analogue processes and the emotional fragility of recollection itself.

More than nostalgia, the series is an attempt to preserve the atmosphere of a vanished personal era — one suspended somewhere between travel, freedom, uncertainty, and youth.
