Vietnam Contemporary
Produced during an 8,800 kilometre journey through Vietnam in 2013, Vietnam Contemporary & The Mekong brings together a selection of photographs exploring the unstable visual tension between antiquity and modernity that continues to define contemporary Vietnam.Drawn repeatedly to the country over three decades, I became fascinated by the collisions occurring everywhere within the Vietnamese landscape — old and new worlds compressed into the same frame, often unfolding simultaneously within a single fleeting moment.
Working instinctively and observationally, the photographs attempt to balance rhythm, light, geometry, atmosphere, and human presence in ways that move beyond straightforward documentation toward something more psychological and ambiguous.
At the centre of the work remains a continued engagement with the decisive moment — those brief alignments of place, movement, and perception that reveal something quietly cinematic beneath everyday life.
